Scratchbuilding with Dad.

My dad has a massive Lionel  O-scale model train layout, and I grew up always wanting to  play with the trains(he did eventually let me run a little trolley, heehee)and wanting to “help” with the never-ending task it is to build a layout. As any model railroader or miniatures builder knows, the job is never quite “finished”, and who knows what we would do if it ever was, because, well…half the fun is in building it all yourself.

Over the years, I have marveled at Dad’s creativity in building little things for his layout; from buildings to set pieces, always using things he finds around the house or at thrift and yard sales. My favorite creation of his is popsicle-stick tombstones.

I’ll hopefully have some good, clear pics soon, but in the meantime, here’s an article Dad wrote for a model railroad publication, called “50 Things for 50 Cents”. Click the images to read!
